Pips conversation with Biddy Essay Example for Free
Pips conversation with Biddy Essay Pips change whilst being in London, has meant he sees wealth as everything. If I could have kept him away by paying money, I certainly would have paid money. Showing that firstly, hed do anything to stop Joes visit, and also he can buy anything, and that money can solve anything.Ã Pip feels embarrassed, he doesnt want to be seen with Joe, my greatest reassurance was, that he was coming to Barnards Inn, showing he doesnt want to be associated with someone of Joes status. Joe himself realises the change in Pip, you wont find half so much fault in me if you think of me in my forge dress. This displays Joes uncomfortableness, and unease, he realises Pip has change, and doesnt see Joe the same as before. However Pip also becomes conscious of his change, if I had been easier with Joe, Joe would have been easier with me. Showing Pips tension, and impatience with Joe. Pip makes Joe feel uneasy, us two now being now alone Sir. The key word is Sir, Joe sees the change in Pip and feels obliged to call him Sir. As Pip has grown accustomed to his great expectations, he has noted the change in himself. I had insensibly begun to notice their effect upon myself, showing he realises the effect people have had on him, which has caused him to change during the course of his expectations. He recognizes this effect is not all positive, I knew very well that it was not all good, screening he has accredited the change within him. We see Pip build a sense of guilt, towards Joe and Biddy, I lived in a state of chronic uneasiness respecting my behaviour to Joe. My conscience was not by any means comfortable about Biddy. He has realised his mistreatment toward them.Ã Upon hearing the death of his sister Pip, starts to notice her, in his world. In my rooms too, with which she had never been at all associated, there was at once the blankness of death. Showing the effect of her death within him.Ã Biddy tells Pip she is leaving the forge, he replies with: I am not going to leave poor Joe alone, showing his fondness of Joe, which is a drastic change, from their previous meeting in London. Even whilst at the forge and with Biddy, Pip still relates to wealth, I would spend any money, showing his continuous thought of money, which is such a change from his young childhood.Ã Pip changes towards Joe, good-bye, dear Joe!- no dont wipe it off- for Gods sake give me your blackened hand. This shows he respects Joe and likes him for who he is man he was. Pip realises he prefers London, he thinks Joe and Biddy knows he does, he thinks they believe he wont come back, his response is a they were quite right to. This is a clear representation of his change since his younger years. When Pip sees Magwitch, and learns that he is in fact his benefactor, he is disturbed, he is positively repulsed to find, Magwitch is the person who has raised him to become a gentlemen. The abhorrence in which I held the man, the dread I had of him, the repungance with which I shrank from him, could not have been exceeded if he had been some terrible beast. Dickens choice of words, illustrate Pips horror and hatred towards Magwitch, abhorrence, repungance, and dread. He uses animal imagery to convey his pure displeasure that Magwitch is in fact his benefactor. We see the change Magwitch brings about in Pip, O, that he had never come! That he had left me at the forge-far from contented, yet, by comparison, happy. For the first time since being in London, Pips views of the forge, have changed. He reconsiders his current position in London.Ã Pip doesnt want anything to do with Magwitch, he laid his hand upon my shoulder. I shuddered at he thought that for anything I knew, his hand might be stained with blood. He sees Magwitch as dirty, he sees the money to be untrue and dirty also, which is a change, as before the money was everything to him. When pip finally reconsiders his situation, he is thoroughly disheartened: It was not until I began to think, that I began fully to know how wrecked I was, and how the ship in which I has sailed was gone to pieces. Showing that he believes his, ambitions, aspirations and hopes are all shattered.Ã Pip regrets his mistreatment of Joe and Biddy, worthless conduct, he sees how bad hes been. He sums his emotions up at the end of the chapter, thick black darkness, this is how he sees his life after his changing reunion with Magwitch. Within chapter 40, Pip is still demoralised by finding Magwitch to be his benefactor, I was greatly dejected and distressed. Showing the change Magwitch has had on Pip since he made himself recognized. Pip analyses Magwitch, he ate in a ravenous way, that was very disagreeable. This is a sign of his change, he notes his manners, and sees his etiquette as wrong. Dickens used the word disagreeable, which, represents, that its disagreeable to Pip, in his new found hierarchy. Dickens again uses animal imagery to convey Pips feelings towards Magwitch , he looked terribly like a hungry old dog. This represents Pips dislike for Magwitch. Pip is desperate to know how long Magwitch will stay, in a frenzy of fear and dislike. I want to know how you are to be kept out of danger, how long you are going to stay. The key words are: fear and dislike, these are clear depiction of his disgust towards Magwitch.Ã We notice a huge change within Pip. He now recognises his affection toward Magwitch. He believes he should do right by Magwitch before he dies, it became the first duty of my life to say to him, and read to him, what I knew he ought to hear. Showing his consideration of compassion for Magwitch. Pip informs Magwitch about Estella, she is living now. She is a lady and very beautiful. And I love her He feels his duty, is to complement Magwitch on Estella. The change in Pip is that he inevitably forgives and pardons Magwitch, he wishes the best for him. O, lord be merciful. This is a drastic change to his initial thoughts towards him, when he discovered he was his benefactor.Ã Within chapter 57, as Pip comes out of his fever, we observe a change in him. Pip again worships Joe, O, God bless him! O, God bless this gentle Christian man! Showing his repentance. Pip changes his view of the word wealth. Wealth of his good nature, showing his new appreciation of wealth, he has realised that, wealth in money terms doesnt make a gentlemen, where as wealth in nature, and kindness does. Pips change is shown with: I went towards them slowly, for my limbs were weak, but with a sense of increasing relief as I drew nearer to them, and a sense of leaving arrogance and untruthfulness further and further behind. This shows he believes hes leaving his arrogance and untruthfulness behind him, these are the factors of a gentlemen he now perceives to be appalling. Pips appreciation of Joe is exposed with, my first thought was one of great thankfulness, that I had never breathed this last baffled hope to Joe. Hes so happy he didnt destroy Joe. This is a change in his feelings for Joe. His further appreciation of Joe is shown within Pips conversation with Biddy. Dear Biddy, you have the best husband in the whole world, and if you could have seen him by my bed you would have-But no, you couldnt love him better than you do. This shows his sheer delight with both Joe and Biddy. He both recognises Joe and Biddy as good natured people, but also he recognises his mistakes. You were both so good and true. To grow up a much better man than I did. He identifies his life wasnt all good, and he acknowledges his mistakes.Ã In conclusion, Pip has changed his depiction of the word, gentlemen. He no longer sees it to revolve around education, wealth and social standing. Due to the positive effect that Joe has upheld within Pip, Pip appreciation of a gentlemen is to be concerned with, faithfulness, generosity and goodness. Pip lost everything whilst in London, he now however has gained so much more, with respect and understanding, of not only himself but others also.

The Use of Computers in Entertainment :: Technology
The Use of Computers in Entertainment In todayââ¬â¢s electronic era computers have a hand in almost everything. Entertainment is no exception, in fact with the coming of digital information has made one of its greatest leaps. Movies, games, music, even books that that are simple and easy as it is have been impacted greatly by computers. But how far is too far? Music is now stolen, movies the same, games can be hacked and broken into with simple programs. As technology continues, more and more information will be taken, changed, stolen, and laws will then be made to try to stop all of this. But all they really need is a good middle ground to work towards or land on. With the coming of DVDââ¬â¢s computers moved into a big portion of the video industry. But with it came the ability to take a movie off of the disk and distribute it over user sharing programs. Many companies have tried to solve this problem by adding programs and such to the disks so that the information cannot be stolen. This does not stop DVD pirating, but it does cut down on the burning of DVDs. CDââ¬â¢s have also incorporated this type of programming for the same reasons. The music industry was turned upside down with the coming of Napster. Why this was is not really understood, because many programs that were out previously that did the same thing. Scour was a one of a kind program, and before that simple FTP sites were in abundance, as they still are, to download music. Perhaps the ease of which Napster allowed users to share information is what bothered them. But a lawsuit was taken against Napster, and it had to restrict many of its features (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/1000463.stm). But if they had simply come to a common middle ground, perhaps having users pay to use the service or pay for the music itself, would have been better. Just because Napster was forced to add program lines that all but shut the program down didnââ¬â¢t mean the other user to user programs were forced to stop being made. In fact when one is shut down it seems like 5 replace it. Because of this many programs that have a service fee or a membership of so me sort is ignored.

Education versus Experience Essay
The topic under discussion today is experience versus education. Can experience make up for the lack of a degree, or does a degree provides something that experience cannot? Is one more valuable than the other? Talk about a discussion that will have you chasing your tail! Itââ¬â¢s truly a trap debate because the right answer is ââ¬Ëit dependsââ¬â¢ (Author: John Ha www. reliableplant. com). This means that we can not give an overall view to the worlds prospective. In this essay I will prop up the experience group as weighed against to the education as according to me it is more worthy and admirable. Although both the terms are by hook or by crook inter related but still there is one chief difference in the two. Education can be gained through experience but there is no chance of gaining experience through education as experience is only achieved by understanding different circumstances. There is an immense need of understanding the meaning of different textbooks educating you with different things. This understanding can only be gained through experiencing the unusual circumstances of life. This means that although education is awfully essential part of our lives but it can not hammer the experience that an aged person has. In my eyes experience can tackle a problem without education whereas the education cannot tackle a problem without experience. In this article I am sustaining the experience and philanthropic worth to experience as weighed against to the education. In this article more focus is on firefighters and paramedics that require more experience than education. Even a highly educated person cannot deal an emergency as well as a lesser educated and more experienced person can. ââ¬ËEducation is the process of training and developing the knowledge, skill, mind, character, etc especially by formal schooling, teaching and trainingââ¬â¢ (Websterââ¬â¢s Dictionary). This means that education is only amassing of knowledge about something but we are not proverbial with the things which will ensue when we will try to put this knowledge into it. ââ¬ËWhat is education, knowledge in basic skills, academics, technical, discipline, citizenship or is it something else? Our society says only scholastic nitty-gritty are imperative and that is based on accumulating knowledge without understanding its worth. How about the processing of knowledge, using muse, farsighted ambitions, creativity, risk, ability to rebound back from failure, motivation? Most education institutions donââ¬â¢t deem these skills. These skills are allied with understanding the value of knowledge. There is a huge disconnected gap and this is a problem for high school students in particularââ¬â¢ (www. motivation-tools. com). This is education all about and what we can dig up and be on familiar terms with from education. ââ¬ËExperience is the act of living through an event or events; personal involvement in or observation of events as they occurââ¬â¢ (Websterââ¬â¢s Dictionary). We can be the expert in any subject only by being greatly experienced in the certain subject. It is not a subject of our school time tables. Here it means that the subject of our life. It means that certain profession of our life for example Firefighter-Paramedics. ââ¬ËExperience refers to the nature of the events someone or something has undergone. Experience is what is happening to us all the time as long as we exist. Experience, used in the present tense, refers to the slanted nature of oneââ¬â¢s contemporary existence. Humans have a multitude of expressions, behaviors, language, emotions, etc. that typify and transmit our moment-to-moment experiences. Experience, used in the past tense, refers to the accumulated product (or residue) of past experiences e. g. , after many hours of training and practice building furniture out of wood, we now consider him to be an experienced wood craftsmanââ¬â¢ (www. wilderdom. com). We are more in concern with the experience from the past. The events that took place and what we learnt from them. ââ¬Å"Firefighters are rescuers comprehensively trained first and foremost to put out perilous fires that threaten civilian populations and property to salvage people from car accidents, collapsed and burning buildings and other such situations. The increasing convolution of modern industrialized life with an increase in the scale of hazards has stimulated both advances in firefighting technology and a broadening of the firefighter-rescuerââ¬â¢s remit. They occasionally provide emergency medical servicesâ⬠(WIKIPEDIA). This is one source that requires more experience in there profession. ââ¬Å"A paramedic is a medical professional, habitually a member of the emergency medical service, who principally provides pre-hospital sophisticated medical and trauma care. A paramedic is emotional with providing emergency on-scene treatment, catastrophe intrusion, and life-saving stabilization and, when apposite, convey of ill or injured patients to definitive emergency medical and surgical treatment facilities, such as hospitals and trauma centersâ⬠(WIKIPEDIA). This is another field which acquires mostly the experience than education. Although the education is very essential part in this profession but without experience it is almost impossible to deal with emergency cases. This is the reason giving great importance to the experience sectors.

The Pollution Of The Middle East Cleaner - 876 Words
Through recent studies, scientists have noticed that political issues have actually made the air in the Middle East cleaner. Scientists have discovered this because of the significant changes they can see from space. These scientists looked at 10 years of recorded data taken by NASAââ¬â¢s Aura spacecraft which records the Ozone levels such as nitrogen oxide. Nitrogen oxide emissions have dropped because of the civil war in Syria, movement of refugees, new environmental safety laws and the amounts of fossil fuels used in the Middle East. Scientists have found that 58% of nitrogen oxide emissions around the world are cause by the burning of fossil fuels. Since the Middle East has more fossil fuels, they produce more nitrogen oxide and sulfur dioxide. In places such as Saudi Arabia, within 5 years, their general energy consumption rose along with their nitrogen oxide levels. During those five years, Saudi Arabia passed a law that was aimed toward reducing the countryââ¬â¢s enviro nmental footprint causing the consumption to continue to rise while the nitrogen oxide emissions dropped. Other Middle Eastern countries such as Kuwait started putting their own air quality standards into play proving that air control is successful. These standards were leading other countries like the Israeli cities of Tel Aviv and Haifa to pass a Clean Air Law. The result of the Clean Air Law was as successful as the law passed in Saudi Arabia. Other causes for the drops in emission levels were not asShow MoreRelatedAlternative Energy is the Solution to the Fossil Fuel Dilemma1366 Words à |à 6 PagesDilemma If the United States continues to employ fossil fuels for energy, the nation will ultimately become more dependent upon fuel imports from the troublesome nations of the Middle East, and we will continue to damage our precious environment. Ancient Greece Book Review - 1583 Words
Ancient Greece Paired Book Review By Rohan Ahluwalia Core 2 What were the most memorable moments in the books for you? Why? The Odyssey and the Hatchet were both great books. The most memorable moment in the books were hard to choose as there were many interesting parts. In the book, The Odyssey, the most memorable moment for me was when the wife of Odysseus, Penelopeia, organizes an archery contest. The contest was to string the bow that belonged to Odysseus and fire it through the opening of twelve axes. She organizes this contest as she suspects the strange beggar to be her lost husband, Odysseus. She knew nobody would be able to complete this task except for him. In the book, ââ¬Å"for all i don t think it will be easy to bend the fine bow. There is not a man in all this company as good as Odysseus.â⬠(p. 263). She announced that she would marry the person who won the contest. There were many Suitors in the house of Odysseus, who wanted to marry Penelopeia so that they could steal her wealth. The suitors tried the contest and failed, except for Odysseus disguised as the beggar. Once he strings the bow he reveals his identity and reunites with his wife. In the book Hatchet, I loved the part where Brian creates fire with the hatchet. He wante d to create fire so that he could fend off insects and animals. He figured that the hatchet could create a spark after he threw it at the porcupine but missed and hit a rock. Motivated to create a fire, he went out and gatheredShow MoreRelatedEssay On Ptsd997 Words à |à 4 Pagesthe First World War. Contemporary Design Essay Example For Students
Contemporary Design Essay Contemporary design is usually client based. The designer usually focuses on the presentation of ideas and statements through the collection rather than designing for any specific occasion. Contemporary design is more conceptual, because of this I am going to concentrate on the concepts and imagery associated with the idea of modern, futuristic clothing. As I begin to think about this I will have to consider the client. Designers these days rely on celebrities, socialites and fashion icons to publicise their clothing. For example, a lesser known designer could shoot to fame should an A-list celebrity wear one of their creations to a party or premier. Recently, fashion has seen many designers using recognised celebrities as models in their catwalk shows, favouring them over professionals, these celebrities possess the high public profile needed to gain much needed publicity. Some well known designers such as Alexander McQueen sight celebrities as their muse behind their work. This is no new idea, glamorous women have always been desirable in the world of fashion, almost as if their beauty is an accessory in itself. In recent years fashion has seen a change in the attitudes towards beauty and convention. Models have become less and less like the glamorous Hollywood film stars and all things quirky have become desirable. It seems that personal imperfections are the only real individuality we have in the age where fashion has become accessible to everyone. Designers are less concerned with the enhancement of beauty and seem to aim to shock audiences with avant garde creations as catwalk shows become less a collection of clothes and more a piece of theatre. Favoured by McQueen ,Westwood and Hussein Chalayan these designers realise the importance of a catwalk show as often their own label creations are so extreme and conceptual that this is the only way they will become recognised. This way, even the most way out designs can gain as much publicity as the more conventional celebrity fashion. The wow factor is all important in modern design. I want to create something that stands out from the more conventional clothing so obviously I am not concerned with the everyday wear ability of the garment. The overall presentation of the concept is more important to me. Because of this I am hoping to have a slot in our school fashion show next year. This will be as big a part of my project as any, as it will hopefully show my ideas in situ. At this point I am considering models to make my clothing for, I am a strong believer in clothing being for the individual and the looks will only be as effective as the people who wear them. Here I have researched the role of the celebrity in fashion. My next steps will be to see how the modern designs I am looking at are watered down to be more accessible for high street stores.
